Philippine Independence Day today

The nation marks its Independence Day today. Simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at the Rizal Monument at Rizal Park in Manila, at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite and all other important sites all over the country including the historic Boac Town Plaza.

President Aquino is scheduled to lead the ceremonies in Kawit, Cavite where he will deliver his Independence Day message.

The commemoration theme for this year is “Kalayaan: Paninindigan ng Bayan”. In Boac, the raising of the Philippine Flag will be led by Mayor Roberto M. Madla and Vice-Mayor Dante J. Marquez, after which the oath of allegiance to the Filipino Flag will be led by the local Boy Scouts. A thanksgiving mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Ulysses Rivamonte.

Wreath-laying at the Rizal Monument in Boac will be undertaken by representatives from the national, provincial and municipal agencies together with local war veterans, local barangay and youth councils, civic groups and non-government organizations.

To encourage public support to the present government initiatives, programs and activities, the municipal government of Boac has invited Congressman Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco of the Lone District of Marinduque to be the guest speaker.
