Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco lauded the
signing of a legislation that would lay the foundation for energy efficiency
and conservation policy to ensure the judicious use of the country’s energy
resources and promote the development of the utilization of alternative sources
of power.
Velasco expressed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte
for signing the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act designed to
help the country address energy woes and make the country an appealing
destination for investments in the power sector, 30 years after the first proposal
was filed in Congress.
“After three decades of pendency with Congress, we are
finally seeing the legislation coming to light,” said Velasco, who chairs the
Committee on Energy in the House of Representatives and is a co-author of the
EEC law, “We thank President Duterte for signing this milestone law and making
it a reality.”
“The signing of the law comes at a very crucial time when
the country is facing constant threats of unreliable and insufficient power
supply that is hurting the people and businesses,” he added.
