President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed into law on August 22,
2019 a measure which declares that May 3 of every year will now be a special
working holiday in the municipality of Sta. Cruz, province of Marinduque.
Republic Act No. 11376 was enacted to commemorate the founding anniversary of
the municipality of Sta. Cruz, which also celebrates annually the Feast of the
Holy Cross on May 3.
Rep. Lord Allan Velasco of the Lone District of Marinduque
authored the measure.
Santa Cruz, which literally translates into the phrase “Holy
Cross,” is a municipality which has a deep devotion to Christianity and its
traditions. The Church of Sta. Cruz is a symbol for its religiosity and is the
oldest one in the province, as it was constructed way back in the year of 1760.
Aside from this historical landmark, the municipality is also home to rich
agricultural and aquatic resources.
Rep. Velasco is thankful to President Duterte for signing
the bill into law. With the enactment of Republic Act No. 11376, the people of
the municipality will be given a special day to celebrate the foundation day of
their municipality.
