In the light of new COVID-19 cases in Boac, checkpoints back in certain areas; local authorities now more strict in enforcement of wearing of face shields in public transport.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded the public Monday that wearing face masks and face shields in commercial establishments and public transport is mandatory in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya emphasized that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has required the public to wear face masks and face shields inside public transport and commercial establishments.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año had earlier said that face
shields and face shields are only required in public transport.
With some sectors insisting the requirement of wearing face
shields as “anti-poor,” Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)
Secretary Eduardo Año earlier on said wearing face shields is not mandatory and
are required only when riding public transport.
He pointed out the local government units (LGUs) may impose
their own rules on the use of face shields in public places but this should be
without penalties since it is not considered an absolute necessity.
“That statement has been superseded by events,’’ Malaya
said, saying that Año’s statement regarding the wearing of face shields and
face masks only in public transport were made two weeks ago.
