The municipal government of Gasan has launched a search for its best artisans engaged in woodcarving and nito weaving. The project was organized in cooperation with the Marinduque offices of the Department of Trade (DTI), Department of Science and Technology and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Samples of works submitted for the competition are shown here. The competition also includes a category for Morion Painting (oil and charcoal). The municipal government hopes to encourage its local artists whose skills may be further improved and be made integral part of an eco-tourism development project that involves the establishment of a Morion Village in Brgy. Cabugao.
An area in the said village has been identified for the construction of a theme park as additional tourist attraction in this town.
Participants could be seen showing their skills at the Gasan People's Park (formerly Guingona Park) daily from December 6-9 from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Prizes amounting to P 100,000.00 await the winners.
