Mutya Jeanlie Mendoza in Maniwaya Island.



Mutya ng Marinduque 2012, Jeanlie Mendoza of Sta. Cruz visits Maniwaya Island together with a group out on a medical mission  for residents of the three islands of Mongpong, Maniwaya and Polo. The said mission was organized by the Municipal Government of Sta. Cruz. Medicines for various ailments from the Office of Congressman Velasco were distributed to residents of the three islands who trooped to Maniwaya via motorized bancas. 

Small resorts continue to rise in Maniwaya, considered one of the few small islands closest to Metro Manila with white sand beaches accessible by land-sea travel. The island measures 326 hectares, with a population of 1,753 (2007), whose major source of livelihood are farming and fishing. Source of water in the island are deep wells and rain collectors. A mini-power plant operates from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

More frequented fun spots on the island are Palomaria sand bars and America beach.
