MANILA, July 17 (PNA) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday proclaimed Lord Allan Jay Velasco as the duly elected representative of the lone district of Marinduque in the May 13 polls.
The proclamation was officiated by the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) of the Province of Marinduque at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.
Velasco said that he feels vindicated. “I feel na I've been vindicated. Masaya po tayo at na-iproklama na tayo. Talaga pong lumabas ang katotohanan na yung aking katunggali nung nakaraang eleksyon ay isang American citizen.”
The Marinduque lawmaker said he is excited to work and perform his duties and responsibilities to his constituents.
“Excited lang po talaga kasi being a former congressman alam ko naman po ang mga tungkulin, obligasyon, at responsibilidad ko. I will continue what I have been doing… Continue pa rin po yung mga ginagawa kong proyekto sa aming lalawigan at nakakatuwa po talaga na yung mga kababayan talaga pong pinagdadasal na makaupo tayo,” Velasco said.
Earlier, the poll body has ordered the PBOC of Marinduque to proclaim Velasco as the winning representative of Marinduque after it declared as null and void the proclamation of lawyer Regina Ongsiako Reyes.
Voting 5-2, the commission en banc annulled the proclamation of Reyes saying that she has long been found as an American citizen and lacked the one-year residency requirement to be a qualified congressional candidate. (Media ng Bayan)
