Magnitude 4.6 earthquake between Mindoro and Marinduque, today October 13

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake was felt in Mindoro and Marinduque this morning at 10:27 am, October 13, 2013, the European-Meditteranean Seismological Center reported.

The temblor was 100 km deep and tectonic in origin, with its epicenter located at 55 km east of Calapan and 17 km northwest of Laylay (Boac). 

No report as of press time has been issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs.) on this particular earthquake although a series of seismic events in the very same area has been recorded by Philvolcs in recent days or week.

The area in question sits on the Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide causing frequent quakes. This Ring is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, volcanic belts and plate movements. It is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes.
