PHILIPPINE SUPREME COURT FINALLY DECIDED that ATTY. REGINA ONGSIAKO REYES is NOT, and should not have been the DECLARED WINNER in the protracted election protest involving the LONE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT of my beloved birth place, the HEART-PROVINCE of the MORE FUN PHILIPPINES, M A R I N D U Q U E.
Atty. Harry Roque's argument now, after a series of losing various legal maneuverings, both before the Commission on Elections and the High Tribunal, that he still hopes that the HRET, basically known as House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal, would finally act in his client, ATTY. REGINA O. REYES' favor could be LIKENED to trying to shoot the moon with a sling shot. He knows fully well that the bone of contention here is the VERY QUALIFICATION of his client which she miserably FAILED to show by convincing proof via documentary evidence that she was able to reacquire her Filipino citizenship, after alleging that she already renounced her American citizenship which was also based solely on her own self- serving words, again, without any supporting documentary evidence to buttress her defenses. Furthermore, government documents show that on three occasions, she entered conflicting information re her date of birth(imagine an American lawyer from the State of California, U.S.A. adopting 3 different dates as her birthdays).
But, with all due respect, I cannot entirely blame her lawyer, U.P.College of Law Professor, ATTY. HARRY ROQUE, in pursuing farther all avenues to try to please his client or to, at least, give her some sort of consolation that not everything is lost and, therefore, to just wait until such time that the HRET hands down its own final ruling which, for sure, I think, would only ADD INSULT to INJURY already inflicted. I really CANNOT see any IOTA of DOUBT why the HRET can LEGALLY reverse the Supreme Court's decision with FINALITY, based both on PROCEDURAL and SUBSTANTIVE MATTERS. To effectuate such a very REMOTE POSSIBILITY, this HRET should act like a SUPER MAGICIAN to manufacture, or fabricate the MUCH NEEDED PROOF, clearly and convincingly showing that the basic evidence needed at the very outset of this protracted electoral protest, which is Atty. Gina Reyes' being a FILIPINO CITIZEN again, has been in existence long before the COMELEC's final decisions in the case at bar.
I believe, a CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE with FINALITY to the REAL WINNER in these LEGAL SKIRMISHES, Congressman Atty. LORD ALLAN VELASCO, is NOW in ORDER. Mabuhay, to you, Honorable Representative of Marinduque, ATTY. VELASCO. GODSPEED.
