Lost in the Dark Side of the Moon

Dark Side of the Moon by documentarian William Karel

Sensational, moon-shattering public confession of those who knew that the Apollo 11 astronauts may never have landed on the moon and that the first moon-landing footage shown on television around the world on that day in 1969 were just faked. That it was a mega-production made in Hollywood, the dream factory, with no less than US President Richard Nixon giving the go. You learn that the project was actually filmed in London by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick using the still-intact set of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Imagine big names directly admitting their active participation in what may have been described as the biggest show on earth - like Donald Rumsfeld (former US Defense Secretary), Dr. Henry Kissinger (former US Secretary of State), Alexander Haig (White House Chief of Staff under Nixon), Vernon Walters (former CIA Director), Buzz Aldrin (former Astronaut and known as the second person to walk on the moon) and Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick's widow, Christiane Kubrick candidly sharing all they knew about the moon-landing "hoax" that continues to be discussed to this very day.

But somewhere in the film you start entertaining doubts about the compelling drama being presented before you in a too-straightforwardly, discomforting manner, that details further how the whole film crew involved in the hoax was disposed of, and others who knew about it dying mysteriously.

But then again, how could you ignore the serious confessions of contemporary political giants like Kissinger, Rumsfeld, Haig and all the others who agreed to play themselves in the film, you ask.

"Between lies and truths, this film mixes actual facts and others, completely trumped-up. Playing with irony and lie, its purpose is to entertain and raise the question of the use of archive, which can be made to tell whatever you want". This is what the official presentation of the film says.

You finally realize that the film is a mockumentary (combination of the words mock and documentary), a type of film or television show in which fictional events are presented in documentary style to create a parody. Disappointing for some conspiracy theory adherents but further intriguing others.
