Freak storm in Russia: 
With long cold winters, Moscow is used to harsh weather but it's not used to this. What's been called the worst storm here in a hundred years. This was a freak storm lasting 20 minutes at most but with winds that's 110 km/hour.
The loss of lives has prompted Russia's investigative committee to launch an inquiry. - Aljazeera

Severe weather sweeping through Moscow, Russia, on Monday resulted in the death of at least 16 people, according to Russian officials.

More than 200 other people reported injuries related to the storm, which arrived during the middle of the afternoon when many people were outdoors.

Wind gusts of 95-110 km/h (59-68 mph) were reported across the city of more than 12 million people.
These powerful winds caused numerous downed trees and power lines as well as structural damaging including roof damage to the Kremlin. Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, tweeted that 243 buildings were damaged along with around 2,000 automobiles.

An intensifying cyclone churned north toward Bangladesh on Monday after heavy rain in Sri Lanka and thunderstorms in eastern India killed almost 200 people, with more torrential downpours forecast.
Impoverished Bangladesh, hit by cyclones every year, warned that some low-lying coastal areas were “likely to be inundated by a storm surge of four to five feet (1.2 to 1.5 metres)” above normal and raised the storm danger signal, on a scale of one to 10, to seven.

Floods and landslides in tropical Sri Lanka, off India’s southern tip, have killed at least 169 people in recent days, authorities said, with 24 killed in storms in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, either by lightning strikes or under collapsed village huts.
The Sri Lankan military has sent in helicopters and boats in rescue efforts in the most widespread disaster since the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. About 100 people were missing in total.
India warned of heavy rain in the northeastern states of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh as Mora moved further up the Bay of Bengal. - The Japan Times

At least 14 people were injured in Sampson County, North Carolina, Monday night after severe storms caused widespread damage.
“Considerable damage” was reported north of the town of Salemburg through the Kitty Fork and Keener area of the county, according to Samson County officials. Salemburg is located about 30 minutes east of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Storms erupting across the interior Northeast will pack a punch in some communities with the risk of torrential downpours, high winds and hail into Tuesday night.
"While a heavy, gusty thunderstorm can occur just about anywhere in the Northeast, the greatest concentration of strong storms will be over Pennsylvania and New York state into Tuesday night," according to AccuWeather Lead Storm Warning Meteorologist Eddie Walker. - AccuWeather
