Karen Gallman, Miss Intercontinental 2018 and the Moryonan

For the national costume competition, Karen Gallman chose to come out in a bright-yellow ensemble inspired by the Moriones Festival of Marinduque complete with a Morion mask.

Philippine candidate Karen Gallman was crowned Miss Intercontinental 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 27.
She bested more than 80 candidates and made it to the Top 6 as the representative chosen from the Asia and Oceania region.
Costa Rican bet Adriana Alvarado was 1st runner-up.
This is the first time a Filipina won Miss Intercontinental. Prior to the coronation night, Gallman had already won several awards from the pageant including the Body Beautiful special award, the Standout Beauty award from official sponsor H&H, and the media favorite award.
“Success is not just about winning in life but setting goals, small goals, and achieving your dreams, working hard for everything you want,” Gallman said during the question and answer portion.
Karen and her crown: The crown is described as one embellished with 720 diamonds with a total of 21 carats. It also reportedly has a huge .50 diamond carat.
Designer Patrick Isorena on Gallman's national costume: "The National Costume is inspired by the Moryonan also known as the Moriones Festival. It is a colorful festival celebrated on the island of Marinduque in the Philippines during the Holy Week."
"The 'moriones' are people in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers as interpreted by local folks. This festival inspired the creation of other festivals in the Philippines where cultural practices or folk history is turned into street festivals", Isorena added
"The mythical bird 'Sarimanok' was also added to the whole ensemble making it more dramatic," he wrote.
