Flores de Mayo, from the old to the young.

Flores de Mayo, imparted by the old to the young. This tradition started with the proclamation of the dogma of the Inmaculada Concepcion (Immaculate Concepcion), in 1854, and grew in strength after the 1867 publication of the devotional "Flores de Maria", also known by its long title, "Mariquit na Bulaklak na sa Pagni-nilay-nilay sa Buong Buwan nang Mayo ay Inihahandog nang mga Deboto kay Maria Santisima".

This devotion took deep root in Marinduque as it was during those years when piratical attacks were rampant here. Stories persisted on how the townspeople were saved by the Inmaculada's miraculous apparition that drove the raiders cowering away in fear and trembling.
The flock's veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the mother of Jesus Christ grew in importance over time, further encouraged by the church. Eventually, many titles, feasts and venerative practices also grew and became part of the tradition of Roman Catholics.

This image of the Blessed Virgin Mary was among those that joined the Marian procession in Mogpog last night.

Mother Mary clothed in white garment over which she wore another garment of azure blue.

Devotees mill around the images in front of the Mogpog church, the San Isidro Labrador Parish Church.

According to a more recent article published in the official paper of the Diocese of Boac, it was on February 9, 1825, when residents of Mogpog petitioned the national government in Manila for its establishment as an independent town and a separate curacy or parish from the mother church in Boac. Rev. Father Dionisio Santiago was appointed Parish Priest of Mogpog on December 1, 1855, read http://dioceseofboac.org/?p=1506

Praises of Mary grew with the growth of the Christian community, but the  veneration and devotion to Mary as recorded were evident even during the time of the Apostles.

Among the names or titles of images venerated in Mogpog and the recamadera, trusteeships/caretakers of the images are Bambini Maria (Dr. Rey Menorca), Birhen ng Lourdes (Tessie Marte), Mater Dolorosa (Caridad Ligeralde), Mater Dolorosa (Erlinda Nunez), Birhen ng Fatima (Edna Go/Dia Santos), Birhen ng Antipolo (Crisanta Olano), Birhen ng Flores (Rustica Lavarez), Birhen ng Flores (Brgy.
