Independence Day celebration in Boac, Marinduque

Rizal monument in front of the Casa Real of Boac. This building is a reconstruction of the old Casa Real where it originally stood. It now serves as the temporary offices of the Municipal Government of Boac while a new municipal building is presently being constructed.

The old Casa Real's exterior walls were made of sillar, adobe stones, the roof of tisa came from the magapog plant built by the Jesuits in Mogpog. The windows and carcel, jail were provided with heavy iron grills. Last thing I heard is that portions of these iron grills still exist and are stored in a secure area hidden from view. The Casa was equipped with cannons that guarded the main entrance.

Various tropical flowers were offered this morning at the foot of the Rizal monument by local government agencies and offices and private orgs in celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

Boac Mayor Roberto Madla delivers his message on the theme "Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan". Similar austere celebrations were held simultaneously in all Philippine towns and cities.

Orchids, birds of paradise were some of the tropical flowers offered.

Souvenir shot with Mayor Madla and the ladies of Cong. Velasco.
