A Church official said corruption exists in the political system due to persisting political dynasties.
“Corruption persists because (political dynasties) are not removed from power,” Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines– National Secretariat for Social Action CBCP-NASSA executive director Edu Gariguez  said.
Gariguez noted that there is a need for the electorate to not choose candidates who always get elected. He said candidates should be filtered, especially those belonging to the same clan.
The priest also reminded the public to select beyond popularity using the same principle the church uses, that is to see, judge then act.
Gariguez said that the Church constantly appeals against political dynasties and called on the public to seek for candidates who deserve to win a post because of their integrity and genuine motivation to serve.
“The problem is some are running with varied motivations and once in position they use it for their personal advantage,” Gariguez said.
“We should also contemplate that it is not the one who has given even a little during election time who should get our votes if that is our standard in voting, because even the smallest given will be taken back from us and this is the reason for them to (be) corrupt,” Gariguez added. - Rosette Adel, Philstar
