Corruption is a cancer, pope tweets

(ANSA) - Vatican City, October 20 - Pope Francis used the papal Twitter account to blast graft on Tuesday. "Corruption is a cancer on society," the pope posted on the @Pontifex account.
Francis has repeatedly spoke out against corruption since being elected head of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics in 2013. The issue is topical for Italy and the city of Rome, which have been hit by a series of graft scandals. The pope has also in the past apologised for corruption by Catholic clergymen, admitting that the problem affected prelates in some cases.
