Sa nangyari sa Marinduque 400 taon na ang nakaraan, Oct 10-15, 1617, nagluksa at nagdalamhati ang buong bansa

Eksaktong 400 na taon sa araw na ito, October 10, naganap sa Las Islas Filipinas ang isang kabanatang gumimbal sa buong bansa. At sa karagatang pumapaligid sa isla ng Marinduque ito nangyari.

Anim na mga galleong ang ilan ay ginamit sa digmaan sa pagitan ng Dutch at Spanish ang inabot ng malakas na bagyo sa dagat malapit sa Marinduque. Sa Marinduque ang destinasyon nila para sa kinakailangang pagkukumpuni makaraan ang ilang buwan matapos ang labanan (ang Battle of Playa Honda).


Tinatayang 1,000 katao na sakay ng mga galleon ang nangagsilunod. Kabilang dito ang mga katutubo, mga Intsik at sundalong Kastila, mga manggagawa ng barko at ilan pang mga mandirigma.

Ang kalamidad na ito ang tinuring na pinakamalaking trahedya na nangyari sa pamumuno ni Gov. General Geronimo de Silva. Nagluksa at nagdalamhati ang buong kapuluan.

Sa isang liham na isinulat ni Alonso Fajardo de Tenza kay Felipe III, Hari ng Espana, tungkol sa naganap ay ito ang kanyang sinabi: (Si Fajardo ang sumunod na Governor General pagkatapos ni de Silva).

"After our aforesaid misfortunes the six galleons that were to be fitted up at the shipyards were, while going there, overtaken by a hurricane, and were all wrecked, together with seven hundred persons whom, it is said, they were carrying -  namely, natives, Sangleys, and Spanish sailors and shipbuilders, and some infantrymen -  besides those who escaped, who were very few. 

"Consequently, these islands were left without any naval forces and with few enough on land, by the above-mentioned disaster and the many private persons who died on the expedition to Sincupura or Malaca. The result was very great sorrow to the citizens, because of these troubles."

Ano ang mga pangalan ng anim na barkong lumubog at iba pang mahalagang katanungan


Hanggang sa ngayon, makaraan ang 400 taon, tila wala namang pananaliksik na naisagawa para pangalanang isa-isa ang mga barkong lumubog. Sa mga susunod na mga araw ihahayag natin ang anim na mga galleong nasabi base sa isang masusing pananaliksik at pag-aaral. Mga barkong lumubog sa karagatang tinagurian ni Pedro Murillo (ang gumawa ng kauna-unahang mapa ng Filipinas, Mother of all Philippine maps), na 'Tablazo de Marinduque'.
